I have successfully installed Thunderbird on Linux Mint but I have no desktop launcher. To get it working I have to go into the Files and click thunderbird/thunderbird and it works but I could really do with a desk top icon to launch it. Thanks for any help.

I think you need to find a newbie-friendly Mint forum and ask how to set up a launcher.

Alternatively, uninstall and then reinstall Thunderbird via your software manager. (Synaptic? Aptitude?) That ought to rebuild associations and shortcuts for you.
