Networked local folders not working for a new account on Windows 7
For the past 10 years I have had various workstations in the office point at a Mapped Network drive on the server for use as the 'Local Folders'. This has worked perfectly to enable different users to access the same emails, file them etc. On the windows 7 machine in question, under another login, this method still works. However with a new user, the local files refuse to load. I can see them, the correct folder is being pointed to under the mapped network drive, but when selecting the folder Thunderbird just hangs, and needs to be restarted to be usable again. I'm struggling to think of other things that could be different between the two user accounts. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Thunderbird (45.5). I have compacted, repaired as many folders as I can. Any thoughts would be gratefully received!
Thanks, Dave

It was a permissions issue on the network drive - not sure why this user didn't have permission, but it works now. Thanks for looking!

Have you tried creating a new Thunderbird Profile for that user? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
No, I've tried a new profile and get the same results. I've also tried disconnecting the mapped drive and reconnecting it, and that has not helped. I'm guessing it is a user issue rather than a Thunderbird one so will investigate the users permissions in case I've done something stupid there!
It appears that you might be a fellow computer tech, so you might be responsive to the following observations.
It's Windows, so don't rule out the possibility that something stupidly un-related to this is affecting it. Maybe another newly created user account may work better.
Just in case, try Check Disk, SFC, registry cleanup, etc.
