lost setting for open previous tabs on restart
option is greyed out..no idea why it went away. I have rried closing and opening Firefax; making it the default; resarting the computer...no help

Make sure that you keep the history and that you do not use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the browsing history.
Make sure Firefox isn't set to run in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).

Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" - remove checkmark: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"
