I've been going back and forth, question and answer, on Intuit community with no problems. Now, since Friday evening, I have not been able to get back in. I get the Mozilla 500 error message. I'm using Windows 7, and I have Firefox 19.0.2 installed. All was fine until Friday evening. I'm not sure what changed.

Does the problem only occur after you open the page, click Sign In, fill in the form, then click the blue Sign In button?

Does it make any difference if you use a secure connection?

A 500 error indicates that the web server encountered a severe problem returning a page to you. This can indicate problems on their side, or that Firefox sent something unexpected.

To check whether it is a server error, you could try viewing the same page in another browser, such as IE9/IE10.

On Firefox's side, when you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

No. It didn't work. Also, I cannot log in using a different browser or different computer. I'm assuming that the problem is on their end? Like I said, all was fine until Friday evening.

It sounds like a server problem.

In case the problem is with temporarily cached settings in your cable/DSL router or modem, you could try power-cycling it/them (i.e., unplug for 10 seconds then plug back in).

One other thing to check if access is urgent would be an independent network, i.e., one that does not run through the same service provider as the computers you've tried so far. You could do that at on a cellular (3G/4G) connection, or at a coffee shop, public library, or computer store. Or at your office or a friend/neighbor's house. If those work, then your ISP may have a problem.

I already had tried the router/modem thing, and it didn't work. I find it very strange that it's only a problem with this one site? They have no "support" section where I can even report the issue as I can't even put a message on their board.

I can sign in no problem. I just can't post a message or respond to the message that I previously posted. I haven't been able to since Friday. All was well until then. When I went to try to respond to a message that was posted in response to my question, I could no longer respond. Then I tried to post on the board that I was having this issue, and I can no longer post.

This is the exact message:

We're sorry, but something went wrong (500) - Mozilla Firefox

We're sorry, but something went wrong.

We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly.

(If you're the administrator of this website, then please read the log file "production.log" to find out what went wrong.)

This seems to be a recurring problem on the site: http://community.intuit.com/posts/were-sorry-but-something-went-wrong-... (January)

Thanks for your help! I had searched their site for this issue but must not have used the right words. It definitely sounds like it's there issue which I did kind of think it would have to be if none of the browsers that I tried would work. Thanks again!

You can remove all stored data from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry (Show All History or History sidebar) or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove everything like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions from that domain, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks. You can't recover from that "forget" unless you have a backup of the affected files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
