I just installed Firefox. I opened my Yahoo mail account and found I could read mail, but that's all. Even the checkboxes on the far left, do not work.

Needless to say, reply, delete, move, and others are not functional.
The installation went normally, yet there is a major problem with Yahoo. I haven't had the browser long enough to encounter any other issues, but this one is enough.
This must be an obvious problem only a newbie wouldn't know.
  How do I fix this.

Using : Windows 10 Pro x64 on a Dell Latitude E6500, 4Gb ram.

Note: I was having major problems with Chrome slowing down. This happened once before and went away after a few hours. I've often suspected Microsoft of being the culprit with one of their updates. Firefox is faster in the same situation, but not unaffected.
I don't think that issue is related though.

Hi jimjulian, did this site work normally for you in Firefox?

It's possible the installation didn't go completely right and you'll need to reinstall. However, that's pretty rare, so I'll give you my usual general advice for when site known to work in Firefox stop working normally:

Double-check content blockers: Firefox's Tracking Protection feature and extensions that counter ads and tracking may break websites that weren't built to operate normally without the blocked components.

Do you see a shield icon toward the left end of the address bar, near the lock icon? More info on managing the Tracking Protection feature in this article: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

Extensions such as Adblock Plus, Blur, Disconnect, Ghostery, NoScript, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin or uMatrix should provide toolbar buttons to manage blocked content in a page. There may or may not be a number on the icon indicating the number of blocked items; you may need to click the button to see what's going on and test whether you need to make an exception for this site.

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button

In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Testing in Firefox's Safe Mode: In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

UPDATE:

I justed noticed none of the links on any page work. I get right click context menus but no response. I tried Netflix. I can 'look but not touch.' The links respond to a hover but take no action when clicked. If I click the play icon in the movie in the top of the screen, a black screen opens. A 'back' click goes to the previous view.
The problem seems to be inactive links.
Is there a security feature preventing active icons from responding?

One should look at what Security software is installed if your unsure about this. And since this is on yahoo email that isn't a Browser problem but sounds more like from yahoo. FF is a Browser not a email software. What is slowing one Browser could be slowing the other browser so don't dimiss it until you know the cause of the problem.

jscher200:

I tried deleted the cache and everything deletable. The installation was new, hence no extensions or other personalizations.

What was changed was the import of information from Chrome. Note Chrome was OPEN when all this was going on. I remember reading something about making sure Chrome was closed during some of the operations.

I reinstalled Firefox after uninstalling, and Firefox works. I tried playing a movie in Netflix and had no problems.

Your post got me thinking about doing the obvious, i.e., a reinstallation, and , as it turns out, that was key.

Thank you both for your contributions.
