Problems with downloading Silverlight. It says it is already there.
I am really sick and tired of Mozilla Firefox changing its standards. First, my Roboform toolbar is accepted. Then it isn’t. Then it is eliminated. But wait a moment … now it’s back but it has to be on the bottom. Then when I want to see a Netflix, it asks for an unnecessary download and RE-install of Silverlight, but then it says this won’t work because a newer version of Silverlight is already installed.
You guys are too, too complicated. I’m switching to Google Chrome as my default browser. Goodbye Mozilla Firefox.
And your contacting process sucks. It is very hard to submit a substantial question. And your feeback (smiley face, frowny face) is stupid.

Hi Jim, your Firefox reported itself to be Firefox 54 on Windows XP, 64-bit. I don't think Firefox 54 runs on Windows XP, and hardly anyone uses 64-bit XP, so your Firefox appears to be running in Windows XP backwards compatibility mode. That disables some features in Firefox on newer versions of Windows, and sites receiving that information may modify how they work due to the differences in how Firefox works on XP vs. later versions.
If you decide you want to use Firefox again, here's how you could fix that:
It depends on where you start Firefox from. Either:
- Desktop shortcut: right-click the icon, choose Properties
- Pinned taskbar icon: right-click the icon, right-click Mozilla Firefox, choose Properties
Windows normally will select the Shortcut tab. Click the Compatibility tab. For best results, make sure no checkboxes are checked here.
If you already have normal settings on that tab, please check this article: How to reset the default user agent on Firefox.
If that is also normal, do you use any extensions that modify your user agent string?
As you may know, Firefox 54 does not run Silverlight. You can switch to the Extended Support Release of Firefox 52 if you require it. See: Why do Java, Silverlight, Adobe Acrobat and other plugins no longer work?

I think that better than telling me all the reasons my computer and its operating system are “wrong” or “backward,” – after all, do you really expect me to go out and buy a new computer and install a new operating system? – is to tell me how to (a) get the Roboform tool bar on top like it was in previous Firefox versions, and (b) how I can avoid Firefox telling me to install Silverlight only to be told that my current version is more advanced. For both reasons, using Firefox becomes very, very restricted. I’m turning more and more to Google Chrome.
Hi Jim, what is your true Firefox version and Windows OS version? The information supplied by your Firefox is not consistent and it's risky to make/try detailed recommendations based on incorrect data.

RoboForm
The latest version of their Firefox extension no longer can draw a toolbar because it has switched from the old XUL interface to the new WebExtensions interface, which works like Chrome in limiting access to the toolbar area. RoboForm made this change quite early -- the older version would have continued to work through Firefox 56, and for Firefox 52esr users through next June. But it's their extension so users will have to lobby them to bring back the old version as an option.
Silverlight
If you want to run Silverlight, you need to use the Extended Support Release of Firefox 52. Firefox 54 cannot run Silverlight. Once you run a version of Firefox that CAN run Silverlight, I think the problem of websites continuously asking you to install Silverlight will go away.
