I just clicked on "speed up Firefox" and now every single thing I had set up is lost. Including I can't sign in.

All my preferences. All my add-ons. All my extensions. Can't sign in to Sync. everything. Gone. Why, why? I have a file that was placed on my desktop called "old Firefox data". How am i supposed to manage this? Who has time for this?

Chosen solution

You can copy files like these from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop to the current Firefox profile folder to recover specific data.

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • SQLite files like cookies.sqlite (cookies) and formhistory.sqlite (saved form data)
  • logins.json and key3.db (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
  • cert8.db and possibly cert_override.txt for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
  • persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other Site Preferences
  • sessionstore.js for open tabs and pinned tabs and tab groups

Sounds like you did a refresh of firefox. Refresh Firefox {web link} is a LAST RESORT ! !

Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

If you're having problems with Firefox, refreshing it can help. The refresh feature fixes many issues by restoring Firefox to its default state while saving your essential information like bookmarks, passwords, and open tabs.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

The explanations on the site are so mindboggling that I had to go and lie down. But I was able to just add the most important thing to me by going to that thing and looking under "preferences". Everything else, ugh.
