I'll be working along in the browser at a site and in a blink a new tab opens, and up pops Apps from Berris Daris or bd (for short) advertising applications.

While I'm sure BD does good work this sudden tab opening is distracting and usually causes more work. I have searched high and low in the software but it's hidden cleverly and not readily identifiable.

As contributors we shouldn't have to pay for ongoing ads that sneak in the browser, even if they are also contributor in other ways. Please advise how to remove this embedded script or extension.

Thanks and regards from Atlanta, GA

Hmm, has this advertising taken over your new tab page? Normally you can display that using any of the following:

  • Cmd+t (Windows: Ctrl+t)
  • click the "+" on the tab bar

If it's not the new tab page, perhaps there is another hotkey which is triggering it.

As a start, could you disable or remove the following extension which has reviews saying it displays ads:

Default Theme Engine - Personas Interactive 2.0.4.5 https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bt-btpersonas/reviews/

I haven't seen the new tab appear in a few days... . When/if I do I'll try the Command t +.

I did go to my add-ons and found some of the Personas apps have interdependent effects on others. For example, when elimating one of several Personas' Apps an undesireable result ends up in the bookmarks toolbar.

For example, I'm using Mac with a brushed metal look that changes the text to white by default. By using Personas I can change the text back to black. Another of these apps also follows interdepent - it takes the 'blur' out of the now blackened fonts! (Very clever.)

Bottom line, I can't tell yet whether or not Personas is involved. I hope not because of the above.

However, based on your input I did disable one app I found to be of Baris Derrin's - 'Theme and Font Size Tuner, v44.1'. Maybe this is the culprit?

This may do the trick! I'll post if the ad tab otherwise appears again.

Many thanks for the suggestions.
