Ever since Outlook PREVIEW started, when I receive an email with an image I cannot view it. When I clik "view" I get either nothing at all or a blank page. Refresh doesn't help. I can however, download the image. If I scroll thru other emails sometimes I can get one to work and then they all work until I log out. The View function works fine in IE.

Were you using Firefox to access Outlook, or the separate Outlook program?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

  • Clear the Cache and
  • Remove Cookies
Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.

  • Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
  • Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

Thank you for your reply! I'll try some of your suggestions later tonite when I have more time. I dread doing this stuff because one wrong key choice can send me into weeks of new unforeseen problems.

Were you using Firefox to access Outlook, or the separate Outlook program? I start Firefox, then start Outlook. I don't think I know what the separate Outlook program is.

Windows Live Mail is part of Windows Live Essentials This accesses web mail without needing to use a browser.

Firefox 42+ has a new Tracking Protection feature that is enabled by default in Private Browsing mode. You can see a shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar when you are in private browsing mode that some content is blocked. You can disable this feature in "Options/Preferences > Privacy".

  • Options/Preferences > Privacy: "Use Tracking Protection in Private Windows"

Did you check in the Outlook settings whether images are enabled because images attached to an email might be blocked?

Cor-el: Thanks for your reply. I don't use Private Browsing mode--at least I don't see the shield icon you mentioned. When I clik the gear icon I see 7 options but none of them pertain to enabling or blocking images.

I think we're talking about the new https://outlook.live.com/ which launched recently. I still don't know why it says Inbox (Preview) at the top.

The part that strikes me as odd is your report that it suddenly starts working for no apparent reason. Usually things are broken, or they work, and there is some kind of logical explanation for the difference.

The only image blocking I see in the site's settings are under Junk Mail. I have attached a screenshot showing my setting, which allows Microsoft to decide based on the sender's reputation.

I don't use this service very much, so apologies for not knowing more about how it works.

jscher: Thanks--mine looks just like your screenshot.

Fred: I cleared the cache and removed cookies--unfortunately no change. As for your other suggestions I'm afraid they're way beyond my skills and patience. As long as I can use "download" it's slower but works. I really hate when new and improved doesn't work as well as the old.

Here's maybe a better clue. I have an email that has an image called "Image1.PNG. If I "View" it, the image appears and then View will work in all other emails until I logout of email. This is the only image I have found that causes this to happen. I have another email account (@live.com) and it does the same thing, there is one image that when I View it, then I can view all other images in all other emails.

When I get an e-mail, and the image is blocked, normally an unblock link is shown.

Fred: I get no indication that the image is blocked or anything like your screenshot.
