Exactly as the title says: Firefox is my default browser, and under Options it says "Firefox is currently your default browser", yet for some reason every time I go to look, the checkbox for "Always check if Firefox is your default browser" is always back to Unchecked.

Specs:

  • Make & Model: HP Compaq dc5700 SFF Base
  • Operating System: Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64
  • Browser Used: Firefox Portable (via PortableApps.com), v39.0 Stable

I already extensively searched the help pages. My answer's not in there, sadly. Thanks, though.

Portable Apps has their own support fora here: http://portableapps.com/forums/support/firefox_portable How to set portable Firefox as my default browser on Windows 7?

Two things:

1. Thanks for the link. I'll go post there.

2. What the heck? This has NOTHING to do with my question.

If you check this preference...

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste shell and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Find the browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser preference; what is it set to?

In desktop Firefox, it would usually say default/boolean/true. What does yours say?

@jscher2000: Thank you for your info. I really appreciate it. But as it turns out, I'm not using Firefox anymore. So, as I don't want to waste anyone's time, is there a way for me to close this question or something?
