I read that they are no longer updating IE? Not sure if the article online was legit or not... Regardless, I have switched to using FireFox as primary source for navigating the WWW.

Is it possible to uninstall IE or is it too integrated with other programs on our laptop to do so? It just takes up so much space, and it would be nice to free that up for other things I actually use.

I believe I'm on Windows 8 or 8.1. Any information in lameman's terms would be awesome. I'm not super knowledgeable about all the current tech stuff.

Thanks in advance.

IE is not discontinued! Microsoft is coming out with a new browser that might not be called IE, but IE 11 should be supported and kept up-to-date for years to come.

There is no need to remove IE, and in fact, there still are some websites that require proprietary Microsoft technology that only runs in IE, so I suggest keeping it around in case you stumble across one of those.

You read it accurately. Microsoft is axing I.E. and introducing a new browser, currently code named "Project Spartan", so we don't know what the browser will be called at this stage. They have not as yet ceased supporting every version. The later versions of IE (10 and 11) are still supported and will be until the new browser is released.

It is possible to uninstall all versions of Internet Explorer except for Version 11.

This link gives you detailed instructions on how to uninstall Internet Explorer's different versions, depending upon the version you have.
