So, after the most recent version of Firefox (34), Firefox seems rather crashy and unstable.

The current issue I'm having is that when I double click on Firefox in the taskbar or on the desktop, its very slow to show the window. Then it begins to start up, but then it just sits there. The picture below is where it gets stuck.

I can't access safe-mode by the menu since that object never gets loaded on screen. I've tried booting Firefox in safe-mode via run, but the problem still persists.

Since I'm typing this in IE, I'll have to give the rough specs (from what I know/can find): Windows 7 (32 bit) Intel Pentium Dual CPU (1.86 GHz) 4 GB of RAM 44.4 GB free on C:\ Firefox Version 34 (revision unknown, probably the latest revision)

Download Firefox Full Installer For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then; Using your file browser, open the Programs folder on your computer. Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual. Look for, and rename any Mozilla and Firefox folders by adding .old to them. Now run the full installer.

Deleting the old profile worked.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift (Mac Options) > key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

You can try to disable OMTC and leave hardware acceleration in Firefox enabled.

  • about:config page: layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

You can check if you can start Firefox properly in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift/Options key.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

I guess I wasn't clear.

I am NOT able to load any web-pages in firefox. Therefore I am not able to get to about:config

I tried the Shift + Starting Firefox, but the problem persists.

Since Firefox won't even load web-pages or the main GUI, I can't get into the about:config.

Great to hear. When you try to restore your profile, ONLY move / copy things like add-ons. DO NOT TRANSFER any data.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
