Hi, I am a long time user of firefox, but recently i was a chrome user(don't judge me) I came back to my origins and i have a problem. I cant login to a site, it put my log in info, i click "login" and it goes to the main page like i didn't login. The funny thing is i can login perfectly on private browsing. I tried to enable cookies and everything but still don't work.

There is a special behavior regarding cookies in private windows: Firefox automatically accepts cookies for the duration of the current session.

This implies that there is a problem with cookies in regular windows. What settings do you have under Options / Privacy? For example:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy

Cookies should be saved at least for the current session if you have either

  • "Firefox will: Remember history"
    or
  • "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history" with either
    • "Keep until: they expire"
      or
    • "Keep until: I close Firefox"

It's also possible that Firefox has retained some obsolete cookies for the site which are messing up the login. When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does that help?
