i ran windows defender 3 times. i even downloaded avg program to rid the virus and uninstalled it. I had all day adds popping up and snapdo. They all seem to be gone except some adds keep popping up and i get the above message to call in. Some one wants to connect with my computer to run a diagnostic but wont tell me who they work for except they support windows service. i did not let them. The window with the phone number and above message to call in had the firefox logo on the top of it. please advise asap.

Mozilla does not offer telephone support. Some private companies advertise on Google that they offer support for Firefox, or Windows, or other software. These are not associated with Mozilla.

If you think your computer might be infected with a virus or other malware, there are a couple of forums that offer very detailed free assistance with advanced tools. They are listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

Meanwhile, please try Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run

After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Any improvement in the amount of ads you're seeing?

You may still be infected.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
