When I delete a bookmark, it does not go to the Recycle Bin - why?

Up until recently, when I deleted a bookmark, it went to the Recycle Bin. Lately, it just disappears and there is no recovering it. Can someone tell me how I can correct this? Firefox is up to date and I use Windows 7. Thanks.

hello terri232, the firefox bookmarks library has no recycle bin - "delete" really means delete in this case. however, firefox creates a daily snapshot of your bookmarks so you might be able to restore deleted bookmarks this way: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

Philipp - I installed FF not long ago and "thought" the deleted bookmarks went to the Recycle Bin, but perhaps I was wrong. I did use a few add-ons for tabs and thought perhaps something was interfering but I have to assume you are correct. That is rather interesting because now I have to be very careful deleting them!

What you can do is create a sub-folder and call it Deleted. Then, if you want to remove something, just move it instead.

If you have accidentally removed bookmarks then use "Organize > Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) to get them back.
The Organize button is the first of the three buttons next to the Back and Forward buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Bookmarks Manager).
That only works if you haven't closed Firefox.

Note that Firefox stores bookmarks in an SQLite database file unlike IE that stores each favorite as a separate file on the hard drive and thus deleting a favorite is equal to deleting a file and such files can end up in the recycle bin.

Note that Firefox creates a daily JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder with a maximum of ten.
