Anytime I tried to launch a Java webpage with Firefox v14.0.1 and Java v 7.5, the application would crash and I would have to close firefox. I tried several different resolutions including uninstalling and re-sinstalling firefox, java, and various combinations of uninstalling and rebooting.

It was only when I rolled back Java to Version 6, that I am now able to open Java based webpages. I believe there is some sort of Firefox bug with Java version 7.5. Anyone else see this same issue, or is it just me?

I'm running Windows 7 and don't have XP handy; I wonder whether Java 7 was fully tested with XP?

If you reinstall Java 7, there are some other troubleshooting steps to try, including disabling all extensions and disabling or removing the JInitiator plugin.

Can you provide some URLs where you had problems so others can try?

Also, if you open the about:crashes page and check some of the links there (the ID numbers link to a crash database) there might be an indication of whether it is a known bug.

Sure, I tried the Java check page several times, that crashed it every time with no exceptions - http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

I initially noticed it at streetsmart.shcwab.com. This is a stock trading platform that exclusively uses Java. You probably won't be able to test it unless you are a schwab stock trader. This also crashed it every time.

Here are the crash ID numbers. I don't know that they will help. But I did go to some of the links as you suggested and don't see any indicators this is a known bug.

hmmm... you're probably right about Win XP. I could continue to troubleshoot, but since it is working in Java 6, I might just leave it at that. I could run the other two suggestions you mentioned, but I don't feel like going through the hassle of installing 7 only to have it fail again and have to uninstall and reinstall to get it back up and working.

Thanks for your help! -Dan
