If I open a new tab and go to a web site, the window is larger than I prefer. I always have to press ctrl - twice to adjust where I want. How can I change the default size so I do not have to keep doing this?

Hi,

If you are using an add-on to set the zoom, or font size you can try to adjust its Options in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons > Extensions. You can also delete the content-prefs.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder after exiting Firefox to reset all saved preferences. To open the profile folder via Firefox: Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder.

Using extensions

Are you zooming pages or do you have increased the minimum font size?

If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a (too) high value can cause issues.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)

Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues.

You can also check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

I am just zooming out. The web page defaults to a larger size. They were made for viewing on larger screen. Was looking for a way to change default to keep it a set size.

If this is happening across the board please try the Reset Firefox feature via Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information.

(To revert to the previous profile you were using, close the new profile (i.e. exit Firefox), start Firefox and choose the Default User profile. While the Profile Manager is open, you can also delete the newly reset profile (the one containing random numbers), or the former profile, as the case may be). If the reset is okay, it would be a good idea to delete the old profile as otherwise it would be left intact with the previous data/cache until deleted.

If it is only happening on a few sites please also post one or more links of the problematic sites.

Firefox should remember the zoom factor by domain, so if you open a page from that domain then Firefox should zoom the page.

  • Do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Site Preferences"

Do you have enabled site specific zoom?
