since installing the latest version of firefox the search button does not work. I can only get the internet by clicking restore previous session

When you say 'it does not work', do you mean after you type in a search term and hit Enter, nothing happens?
If so, you probably have "AVG Safe Search" installed which blocks use of the Enter key. Disable it by clicking the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Extensions and disable it in there.
I notice your Flash installation is out of date which potentially exposes your system to attack. Update via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Since the update the first Firefox window I open refuses to open tabs, only new windows, and all refuse to show my bookmarks toolbar. All Sync settings and account seem lost.
