I have to format the machine. How do I back up Firefox configuration and bookmarks for re-installation later?

I have to re-install my windows 7 operating system. Firefox works fine. All I need is a procedure to back up Firefox configuration and bookmarks to ease the configuration process when I re-install Firefox later. Thanks

Firefox stores all of your information in a folder called the "profile folder". If you back that up (onto a USB stick, for example), you can copy it back later after you reinstalled your computer (including Firefox, of course) and all your settings, passwords, bookmarks, etc. will be present again. Take a look at: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.
