Weird behavior, Firefox will not start maximized and requires two clicks to achieve it

When I try to open a new instance of Firefox on my laptop, it continually opens in an extra small window in the upper left corner of the screen. I cannot drag the corner of the window to enlarge it. The icon to switch between windowed/maximized actually shows that it is already maximized. If I click the icon, the window stays the same size, but seems to have restored normal window function (I can manually drag the corner to resize it). If I click the icon a second time, it finally maximizes and has normal maximized window behavior. Opening a second instance of Firefox does not have this problem, but every time I exit the program completely and then open it again, I have to click the window icon twice to get it to maximize.
