on startup thunderbird creates 40-50 instances of the app spontaneously
windows 10 64bit machine 32bit thunderbird 52.6.0 Starting creates flashing screen which creates 40-50 thunderbird screens. I only need one. How do I stop this from happening

Thunderbird remembers its state between sessions. You have to remove the file in which this data is stored. In order to do so, follow these instructions:
- Start Thunderbird and wait for all the screens to open;
- Go to the menu (press Alt or F10) and choose Help > Troubleshooting Information;
- Under Application Basics next to Profile Folder press the button Open Folder;
- Close Thunderbird;
- In Windows Explorer (opened in step 3) remove the file session.json or rename it to session.json.bak.
Start Thunderbird again and only one screen will be opened
