Some of my personal folders have disappeared and when I try to open those I can still see listed, I get a message that says there is an error with the server

Hi and good morning! I have lost some of my folders which usually appear under my 'inbox' sign. With the ones that I can still see, I can't open them & a message pops up that says it's an error with the server. How can I get my folder back & prevent this from happening again? Very clear help would be appreciated as I am a techno dinosaur. Thanks in advance, Wes
