I am using Firefox desktop on Windows 11. I have downloaded hundreds of articles from this website, with no problem until yesterday. I accessed the website using Edge, and it worked fine.

When trying to access a particular article to download it to Ancestry, the following message appears:

Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information).

I accessed the browser console for more information, which I'm sure someone can understand, but not this grandma. This is what I got:

The resource at “https://www.newspapers.com/static/js/consent/sourcepoint.js” preloaded with link preload was not used within a few seconds. Make sure all attributes of the preload tag are set correctly. ChunkLoadError: Loading chunk 3683 failed. (timeout: https://www.newspapers.com/_next/static/chunks/3683-ff579d469765b88f.js)

I really don't want to stop using Firefox, but I need a usable browser. Can you help me?

I'm not sure how to interpret those entries, either.

It looks like Ancestry may be directing you over to a different site (newspapers.com). Can you see that change in the address bar, or does the material seem to be embedded on the Ancestry site?

Two thoughts when you run into this:

(1) Reload the page bypassing the cache. Any of these should do it:

  • Shift+click the Reload button on the toolbar
  • Command+Shift+R

(2) Make an exception in your content blockers

For example, in Privacy Badger, try to "unblock" the site that is having the problem. Usually if you click its toolbar button (which could be on the puzzle piece drop-down), you can "Disable for this site" to check whether it is causing the problem.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. A subscription to one particular Ancestry service includes Newspapers.com. This is how the problem occurred. I found a record on Ancestry that was actually an item on Newspapers.com. The Ancestry page showed an itty bitty article that linked to the original image on Newspapers. The problem was caused when I attempted to access the Newspapers.com link.

I have successfully reached the full article on Newspapers using both Edge and Chrome. Honestly, I gave up and stuck with Chrome.
