I read about this problem just now but the topic was closed. How do I change the colors of typed messages and, more importantly, received messages when the sender says the replies are in red? The answer was: Sounds like you have an override occuring.

Menu app icon > Options Select 'General' Scroll down to 'Language & Appearance' section Click on 'Colours' button Uncheck checkbox 'Use system colours'.

However, I do not know what the 'Menu app icon' is. I've clicked everywhere I can see for all kinds of Options but nothing comes up as 'General' let alone the other options listed subsequently. My version is 91.5.1 (32-bit) on MS 10. Some time ago I did make a change such that no pictures show in the emails but don't recall how that was done or how to undo it so help with that would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you! The View>Message Body as was set at Simple HTML. When changed to Original, it worked - as you knew it would. I honestly don't understand your second sentence and don't see where to change what back to get pictures in an email. I don't understand enough of the technical terms to know what to look for. When I changed whatever setting originally, I was following step by step instructions and did it for security purposes. OH! I just checked another message after the above change and see that there is a message "To protect you privacy, Thunderbird has blocked remote content in this message." When I click on Options, it takes me to Privacy & Security which is where I see I can change it overall or be selective with each message. Thanks again, so much!

First, look at View>Message Body As... If that is other than Original HTML, that may account for the absence of color. The settings you mentioned are at Tools>preferences>general and that setting is to allow you to override the default for text and background of plain text messages. It would not override the color of an incoming font. If View>Message is set to Original HTML and you're not seeing color, please write back with your other color settings in tools>preferences>general.
