After recent Windows or Firefox update, which was quoted to take a few minutes, but lasted all day So I turned off computer at night, in morning, I was able to log in, but screen was blank Took computer to repair shop, who said it was working OK, but when switched on it automatically logged me in as administer After many attempts, I managed to swap user to my own login, only to find lost of apps missing Plus Firefox was missing I had to reinstall, but that meant No bookmarks and No passwords saved

Is there any way I can regain those lost bookmarks and add them to the new updated version of Firefox? As to the saved passwords, I will need to replace them all with new passwords, unless they can be regained too?

During the new install, was there any problem? Did you choose to create a new profile?

Each user on the computer has their own Firefox profile. Are you logged in to the right computer user account?

No I didn't choose to create a new profile, the problem came up after software update, which I had no control over

As I said in my question, I did regain access to my original profile The main problem is there was No Firefox, which was where I stored all my bookmarks - so NO bookmarks Plus No save passwords

Do you have files in the profile folder that have corrupt in the name?

Are there any names and passwords present in the logins.json file?

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

You can check if you have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop in case the Refresh feature in Firefox has been used and a new profile has been created.

You can check if you have an orphaned profile that isn't registered in profiles.ini and that doesn't show in the Firefox Profile Manager. You can check that by opening the current profile folder via the about:profiles page and go up one level (..) to see if there are unlisted profiles present. If you have found an orphaned profile then you may want to recover some personal data or restore his profile.

Found the Firefox profile, but it only contains the newer updated info Unable to find old profile Where is the about:profiles page? I tried the recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile link, but that didn't help, feel like I'm going around in circles

Firefox automatically makes backups of the bookmarks. These are stored in the bookmarkbackups folder.

Open the Bookmarks Manager; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B.

Once the window is open, at the top of the page, press the button labeled Import and Backup. Select Restore. From the list, pick the file you want and click it.

The backups are stored in a jsonlz4 file named something like this; bookmarks-2016-06-29_1424_enD1GTH ya0JmicnYWg4V4g==.jsonlz4

In this example; 2016-06-29 = date created, 1424 = number of entries.

No good, I followed your instructions But the Bookmark files only go back as far as the recent update 17th Nov 2017 Even though it is titled "Old Fixfox Data"

To save space, a backup is not made unless there is a change to the bookmarks.
