IE is part of the Windows operating system, so IE displays many types of files that aren't necessarily related to web browsing.

Firefox doesn't do email, so there's no need for it to be able to display that file type.

Thunderbird, the Mozilla messaging (email) program, will display that file type.

A .eml file attachment in your email most likely came from someone who had MS Outlook Express as their email. IE being from MS will handle it, but Firefox uses associations for this. Unfortunately it doesn't yet have one for .eml files. So I suggest you look up MessageViewer Lite, download and pay for it. It will handle .eml and .msg files. Have it register its file extensions with Windows. Then when you get a .eml attachment and download it in Firefox, right click on the file name in the download window and select "Open Containing Folder". That will bring up the highlighted file in your temp directory and just click on it and it will then open in MessageViewer Lite, or right click on it to select the program to use.

If Firefox would add this extension to their Application settings, you could associate it there and make things much easier.
