I recently got a new machine and loaded it with Linux Mint 21.3 - Cinnamon, FF 142.0 and Bitwarden Version: 2025.8.2 along with the usual cadre of extensions that I use on every other machine I have.

When I first start Firefox, Bitwarden autofill suggestions does not work, autofill from the "Fill" button in Bitwarden does not work and returns an error. The only thing that works is to individually and manually copy the username, paste it, then copy the password and paste it.

If I log out of Reddit and then try to log back in, the autofill suggestions works and the "Fill" button also works.

This is only on Firefox and only on the fresh start of the app. This does not occur on Chrome and I have not tried (and don't want to try) it on Windows.

Why are Bitwarden issues a Mozilla issue? Does Firefox work without Bitwarden?

Since this issue is isolated to a behavior in Firefox, it seemed like Mozilla might have something positive to contribute.

Is Firefox having issues or Bitwarden? Sounds like the issue is with Bitwarden and you'll need to reach out to them IMHO. What can Bitwarden do that Firefox cannot?

Well, that's your opinion.

It's not that you're wrong but maybe somebody else in your group has an idea?

Update: Today I started Firefox and went to Reddit. It allowed the autofill suggestions to work but the response was "incorrect username or password". I cleared the fields, tried copy and paste, same result. Now, I haven't changed my password recently and this happened the yesterday, too. After requesting a forgotten password link, never getting a password change link I went back to the home page to log in. Everything worked fine including autofill suggestions and login. Today, I logged in with a Google ID and then logged out. Then logged in with normal credentials using autofill suggestions and it worked fine. Does anyone still think this is a Bitwarden problem and not a Firefox problem?

It absolutely sounds like a Bitwarden problem. Bitwarden provides the Extension that performs these actions that aren't quite working for you. It's a piece of software developed by people outside of Mozilla.

The Bitwarden extension for Chrome is a different piece of software, so it is very much possible that a bug can exist in "Bitwarden for Firefox" that is not present in "Bitwarden for Chrome".

As you probably know, Firefox has a built in feature for saving passwords and automatically filling login forms. If that doesn't work, that would be a Firefox problem.

If the Bitwarden extension did successfully auto fill but the login failed, perhaps you have a duplicate entry for Reddit in your Bitwarden vault with incorrect credentials? Just a guess, but it would explain the situation you described, maybe.
