Can't successfully add a Mail.com account to Thunderbird

SuMo Bot

I followed the instructions for adding a mail.com email account to my Thunderbird email application on Windows 7 and it keeps giving me this result message:

Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password.

None of this is the case. I re-checked my entry of both many, many times, they're always correct and I've repeatedly tried to get this process to go through with success, to no avail. Also, I tried putting in my Domain and Username as indicated in the 4th entry area in the image I've included, my network domain and my computer name, which made no difference to my lack of success.

I even broke down and paid for a 1-year "Premium"Mail.com account, where doing just this is supposed to be one of the "perks"! All I can ask at this point, since I appear to be doing this right, why won't it work? If anyone can suggest a secret that the instructions I followed lacks, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!

does the configuration first tell you that a configuration is found? If so that indicates that Thunderbird can access the internet and it is not being entirely blocked by a firewall. The next most common cause of issues in antivirus products. They really like scanning Mail connections and screwing them up completely. This is even more so in unsupported operating systems where they try and replace valid security patches for the operating system with more intrusive scanning.

The first move is try windows safe mode with networking and see if the setup can complete.

Thanks, Matt. Yes, I do have AVG for anti-virus and Avast for Malware. Both often tend to cause more trouble than they're supposed to prevent. I wonder if they can somehow be disabled until this issue is resolved. I'm in the middle of a big editing project and restarting the computer is incredibly unnecessarily time-consuming. I'll try your suggestion of using Safe Mode to try and complete it once I get a good window of time for that attempt. That may not be for a few more days, unfortunately.
