Web browser launching constantly when thunderbird is open

Had a user contact me this morning, whenever her thunderbird is open, her default web browser will constantly open. I restarted thunderbird without addons and options reset and seemed fine at first. Ran a full antivirus scan and malware scan, all came back clean.

I found that her client had updated itself this morning so could it have been a botched update ?

Thinking of reinstalling her thunderbird client? recommendations???
