I wanted to remove the account from thunder bird, not the 2000 e-mails I had in there, how do I recover my e-mail?

On my work computer (PC running Windows 7) I wanted to remove an e-mail account from the accounts section and ad in my new e-mail address. I selected to remove it and it never warned me that my 2000+ e-mails from the past 5 years would be removed. This is not acceptable. How can I recover my e-mail?
