How do I fix the sort order of my bookmarks?

Since the beginning of Firefox, my bookmarks have always been sorted by DATE ADDED, However, since FF 63 the sorting is now an alpha sort. Even when I manually change it back to DATE ADDED, it reverts right back to alpha sort. How do I fix this?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
