To whom it may concern: I used to be able to see ALL my Firefox passwords and usernames using options (I think) ..... It's been a long time. How can I still do that ? What I'm preparing to do is move up the ladder from Windows XP to 7 but NOT on this computer (too old). Windows 10 is full of spyware. Yup, still using XP pro. Next: How do move my entire profile to Windows 7 ? I need step by step help. Trouble is some people leave out a step or even part of a step which causes a problem. If they'd only slow down a bit. Don't ever get old....Best2ya Alan

You can view saved logins here:

Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences

In the left column, click Security. Then on the right side, find the "Saved Logins" button.

There is an extension to generate an export file if needed, and the same extension can be used to import the file. For security reasons, guard the file carefully.

To make a wholesale transfer of your current Firefox profile from one computer to another, you can copy/paste the profile folder. The trick is that because profile folders have semi-random names, you will need to update the profiles.ini file on your new computer from the default profile name folder path to the folder name of the one you copied over. Alternately, you can rename the folder you copied over with the name Firefox is looking for.

Yes, there are lots more details, but not tonight. ;-)

Is is probably best not to move the entire profile folder since you move from XP to Win7 with a completely different file structure (Local Settings on XP and AppData\Roaming on Win7) and only move over data you really need.

Just to be sure: XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\ Win7: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

"AppData" (XP: Application Data; Mac: ~/Library; Linux: ~/.mozilla) is a hidden folder.

You can copy files like these to the current Firefoxx profile folder to recover specific data. Be cautious with copying SQLite databases if you previously had problems.

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • cookies.sqlite for the cookies
  • formhistory.sqlite for saved form data
  • logins.json and key3.db (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
  • cert8.db and possibly cert_override.txt for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
  • persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other Site Preferences
  • sessionstore.js for open tabs and pinned tabs
