Are you entering your account password rather than a generated "App password". This could be the reason the password is not accepted.

Many email providers now require an "App password" to be used for security reasons. See the AOL's guide linked below.

If your account is connecting using imap, oauth 2.0 is the recommended and more secure authentication method.
