I am new to Thunderbird email after years of using the KOffice suite in KDE, once that stopped working I decided to switch.

I saw a notice that email notifications are being worked on, I just wanted to document the behavior I am seeing in case it's helpful in any way.

I am running on openSUSE 15.6, Thunderbird 128.7 in the KDE Desktop environment (Plasma Version 5.27.11, Frameworks 5.115.0)

I have my Thunderbird settings to show an Alert, Use the system notifications and play a sound, the default. The sound plays, but never is there a pop-up to draw attention to it. The notification is set to show Preview Text, Subject and Sender.

Thank you.

I was having some trouble with an email account. I deleted and re-added the account. As this is my primary email account, it was at the top of my account listing. After adding it back, it is now at the bottom of the list. I opened Account Settings and dragged the account to the top. When I departed Account Settings, the account still shows at the bottom of the list. I tried moving the top accounts down. I tried moving other email accounts up or down. All of them remain in the same order when I exit Account Settings. I did read somewhere that I need to accept or otherwise indicate that I confirm the new account order before leaving Account Settings. I cannot see any button in Account Settings that allows me to do this. I just X-out of Account Settings. I would very much appreciate any suggestions. Thank you !

Hi folks.

I have a situation where I need to access an email but it seems to be invisible.

It's supposed to be in the Inbox, and when I do a search the results show it is there, yet it doesn't display or is otherwise accessible. The email dates from 2020.

Thanks.

I am in the process of moving my saved emails from Thunderbird local folders to my email service provider, Runbox.com. I'm using the right-click context menu "Move to" item, moving a few folders at a time.

It's not going well. When I view the list of folders at Runbox using Thunderbird, it's far from what I see when I use RunBox's web interface (V6). Some folders are visible one way and not the other, the hierarchy of folders is different, and so on. It's bad enough now that I'm going to halt this project, until I can clean things up and be certain that I'm not going to lose any emails.

So. When using Thunderbird to look at the list of folders at Runbox, many of the folder names appear in a faint italic font. I'd like to know what this means - I wasn't able to find out anything online about this. Clicking on one of the faint italic folder names does list the expected emails, and I can open them.

Once I understand this, I might be able to improve my understanding of the situation to the point where I can explain things to tech support at Runbox.

Thanks for any assistance :)

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I've been archiving my e-mail on my Synology NAS for a number of years now. However, my W10 desktop computer died last year and I've had to reinstall Thunderbird on a new W11 PC. I want to get access to all the archived e-mails on my NAS, that is, as they used to appear in Thunderbird under local folders year-by-year. I also want to be able to archive more recent e-mails to the same location. That is, I want to re-establish the same archiving process I had previously, complete with access to the old archives. I've tried to set up the same file path to the NAS under Local Folders in Thunderbird (as far as I can remember - I might not have it correct) but the old archives don't appear. in an attempt to identify the correct file path on the NAS, I've tried to archive a recent message as a test so I can see where it is stored - in Thunderbird the year folder appears under the NAS location under local folders as expected and I can see the message in the message window so it seems to be working but I can't see any new folders or files on the NAS - nothing modified or created with today's date. I'd be grateful for any assistance. Thanks, Kevin

Hi Thunderbird Community,

I started using Thunderbird yesterday. I am using the latest update, 28.7.1esr (64-bit).

I’m encountering an issue with how URLs are displayed in my incoming emails. Instead of showing shortened, clickable links, emails from LinkedIn and other sources display the entire lengthy URLs, which include various codes and symbols. This makes the emails difficult to read.

For example:

https://www.example.com/messaging/compose/?connId=exampleUser&lipi=urn%3Aexample%3Apage%3Aemail_email_accept_invite_digest_02%3Bb6%2FtTggbExample&midToken=AQFfExample&midSig=ExampleSig&trk=eml-email_accept_invite_digest_02-null-0-null&trkEmail=eml-email_accept_invite_digest_02-null-0-null-null-Example~Example~iq-null-null&eid=Example~Example-iq

The URLs show up in their full form rather than as clickable links or with descriptive text. I have checked the settings, but I could not find an option to improve the readability of these URLs.

Can anyone suggest a way to configure Thunderbird to display URLs in a more readable manner, similar to how they appear in Outlook or other email clients?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I am no tech genius and am struggling....

I have an old laptop (L1) and now have a new laptop (L2) - wanted to make my Thunderbird messages (POP account) accessible on both so installed Thunderbird on L2. The problem I then had was that if messages went to L1 or my phone they didn't come through to L2. So I went into my gmail through google on L1 and changed my POP settings, not really knowing what I was doing. I changed it to 'Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)' and 'Keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox'.

This resulted in every email I'd ever had since setting up my Gmail reloading into my inbox (20K messages!) on L1. I now get new messages on both laptops however nothing is showing in any of my L1 Inbox subfolders (I had everything nicely filed...), and on top of this if I make a new subfolder the folder appears but if I moves a message from inbox to that folder the message disappears i.e., it's not visible....

I restarted Thunderbird after this and got an error message 'Couldn't load XPCOM' but I can still see all my inbox messages so seems to be starting up OK but the folder problem persists. It's maddening as I can't sort out my 20K messages into manageable folders....

I'd really like to understand - in an explanation fit for a tech dunderhead - what's going on. Both to fix it, and to stop the same thing ever happening in my Thunderbird on L2....

It'd be much appreciated if someone could help me unravel :)

Hi - I have a problem very similar to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1493859?page=1 I think.

I am unlikely as technically savvy as user @iwright2 though.

I am running a MacBookPro 14.1.1, Thunderbird 129.7.1esr

Like the other user, this is no doubt due to my overstuffing of folders. I have, as a friend says, terrible computer hygiene.

I can see from the size of the empty inbox that there are many messages there. These messages all display in AllMail and outbox. These are all embarrassingly large.

I believe the problem stems from my searching on a string in one email's inbox and highlighting just these - they numbered n=60 I think, and I transferred them to an inbox on a different email account. They transferred slowly and after that, the entire first folder was empty.

This is a mac, running a lot of different gmail accounts all as IMAP.

Perhaps I need to restore some file, but I'm pretty nervous to do this. I will backup the computer first.

I'm not sure what else to tell about or investigate. Is there anyone who might be willing to help see me through trying to restore these emails to visibility. I tried someone's suggestion to change the display parameters, but that doesn't work. I must have messed things up in the transferring. I can also try repairing a disk as suggested in the other thread, though I'm not sure that's the root of the problem, I think the transfer amid way-too-big-files is.

Thanks - Huge Thanks!!! - if someone has a thought/suggestion as to where to start.

I need to move around 9,000 emails from a business Google workspace email to a personal Gmail account. I successfully exported all 9,000 emails to a Mbox file. I added the new Gmail account I want to move the emails to and the exported file to Thunderbird and it shows over 20,000 emails in Thunderbox (even though there should only be around 9,000). I have tried moving the email file to the new email account within Thunderbird twice now. Both times it shows like it is moving the 20,000 emails but when it finishes it only moves around 1,200 emails. How do I get it to import all 9,000 of the emails that are in the exported file?
