I installed Thunderbird 149.0 on Linux Mint 22.2 and I can't figure out if it's a release or a beta. On the downloads page, the "Release" section lists 148.0.1. The "Beta" section lists 149.0b4. The "Help - About Thunderbird Beta" window says "Release notes." I'm confused: what are these?

149.0 is the release and that is what your screenshot shows. the beta is 149.0B4 - I agree, it's a bit confusing, as the beta was 149.0 just a few weeks ago.

Why does the screenshot say "Thunderbird Beta is being updated by another instance"?

I am as puzzled as you. I notice the release website, as I write this, is not current: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/releases/ maybe there's a bug in release documentation.

delete.
