Sorry but I find carrier pigeons easier than computers and no I don't have any. I am trying to get a second email account sorted as the first one has been disconnected (old supplier) even though new emails sent to the old address show up on thunderbird. Online advice on how to do this does not work, as the information that should be on screen is not there. Oddly enough the new email address has allowed me here, does this mean that the new email address is now working? Many thanks

UNABLE TO SEND AND RECEIVE EMAILS FROM FREE-ONLINE (PLUSNET SERVER)

1. Was able to receive emails sent to my address xxxxxx@xxxxxxx.free-online.co.uk, but unable to SEND my replies. Was getting this notification: 'Send message error. Sending of message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Unknown sender. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again, OK' (see attached). 2. Checked all settings, all correct as used to be before the problem started. 3. At some stage, I tried changing the password in Settings > Privacy & Security > Passwords > Saved passwords > Saved logins to see if that helped. It didn't. 4. This time I also failed to receive emails in my INBOX (except for the Mozilla new sign-in email) and got this other notification: ' Login to account "xxxxxx@xxxxxxx.free-online.co.uk" failed. Login to server mail.free-online.net with Username xxxxxxx failed. Enter new password/Cancel/Retry'. 5. I tried Cancel and Retry (several times) but was still getting the same notif. (see attached). 6. I removed the free-online Server from the Saved logins (Provider: smtp://relay.free-online.net, User: xxxxxxx) with the intention of restoring it with a new password - but found I couldn't restore the free-online server. So I decided the best thing to do was to restore the password as it was before and to ask for help here. I will have to check on the webmail until the problem is resolved. HOWEVER, it appears that I cannot log into my webmail either so I am not sure what to do for the best: leave an alternative address here? or wait to see if I can solve that problem so I can read the email notification that I have a reply (it's probably safer to do that) NB1. Free-online is a sub section of Plusnet. NB2. Last year I received an email from Greenby saying something about maybe taking over from Plusnet and that I would be notified if and when I had to do anything. I have not received any such instructions so left things as they were. Many thanks for your help from a not-very-techy so stressed old lady.

I have been dealing with this issue for the last several thunderbird versions. I am currently running 115.18.0

Everytime I try to configure an existing gmail account for thunderbird via File -> New -> Existing email account

I specify my Name and gmail email address, then password for the gmail account.

The google authentication pop up launches " Mozilla Thunderbird wants to access you Gmail" and I click "Allow"

As soon as I click "Allow" I am asked to download a file.

Google gemini says this file is a sign that Oauth is not being accepted by thunderbird.

What I have tried. I verified Thunderbird is set to accept cookies I have verified there are no previously stored gmail passwords (as this has never worked) I have changed my default browser from Firefox to Brave and verified the same behavior

please help, Thunderbird has never been able to connect to gmail when running on this Ubtuntu install.

In the past week emails from one of my friends started going into junk mail. The person in in my contacts. I selected 'enable adaptive emailjunk mail..." and selected the correct address book. The mail still went to the junk folder. I changed the 'move new junk mail to: my inbox, still went into the junk folder. I had him send me 10 emails that I marked as 'not junk' still no success. My emails come from yahoo.com - went there and there was nothing in the spam or junk folder in my yahoo email account. This is happening to only one email address. There's nothing strange in the title of the email or the content. I've run out of ideas.

My computer suddenly started the above error message for multiple programs. The local computer shop was able to sort out what appeared to be the root cause and that recovered some things but I still needed to reinstall a number of programs.

The program I am terrified of reinstalling is Thunderbird. All my emails on five email accounts since 2011 are stored in TB and I naturally do not want to lose any of them.

The major problems are the computer is running Win7 Enterprise and I am 82 years old so I am prone to needing things spelt out in greater detail than many others.

Can anyone provide a way to reset the program permissions (preferable) or identify the best way to reinstall and still access all my historic emails?

Thank you

Hi, I have used "takeout" years before but not one of these.

Can I keep folder integrity using one of these? And how if not obvious.

Quota is high.

Thanks

My emails were all working (accounts were setup fine). Then, recently, when I opened Thunderbird, the main area (where my messages are displayed) is empty. If I choose another folder, still empty. BUT, the folders all say that there are messages in them (see the attached screenshot)

I have tried the following... 1. Opening Thunderbird in Troublshooting mode: This works, and the messages appear. But I don't want to have to open troubleshooting mode every time. 2. I have ZERO extensions installed, so asking to disable them obviously wont do anything. 3. I have tried to repair the folders (I have tried to repair the default inbox folder, and then tried to repair them all ... nothing worked). 4. I have backed up my thunderbird files, and tried reinstalling Thunderbird. Still didn't work. 5. I tried these three steps ... https://www.mboxtooutlook.org/blog/thunderbird-inbox-missing-emails.html Didn't work either.

Any other suggestions?

Starting Feb 8, 2026 my yahoo accounts no longer work in Thunderbird. I have accessed these for over a dozen years using Thunderbird. In addition, when I open Thunderbird at all I end up getting endless loops of yahoo login messages. The mechanisms in the messages do not work at all. I have received no Yahoo mail since that date. To troubleshoot the issue I tried logging into the accounts directly through Yahoo. Broken, with no access at all to any help resource from Yahoo. Although Yahoo seems to be keeping mum on the problems, there is spotty information online that Yahoo servers were breached a few days ago. One report claimed that user data for about a billion accounts was compromised. I suppose that may explain why my accounts no longer work anywhere- neither from Yahoo itself nor within Thunderbird. Is there a way to disable the incapacitating yahoo popups pending any larger solution to this?
