My Thunderbird (windows) is really not working, so I want to reinstall the whole thing. I have 4 accounts and a local folder. I don't want to backup all the profiles before reinstalling, as I am having an annoying issue with g-mail (I don't HAVE a gmail any more, but Thunderbird wants to login to gmail every time I open it). I only want to backup the "local" folder, as, so I want to reinstall the accounts one by one from scratch. In that way I hope, I can purge Thunderbird of the gmail. Now the question: How do I backup the local folder in a way that makes it easy to import it back after all the reinstallment?

Aloha. I'm helping a friend with setting up a new Windows 11 PC, and cannot get Thunderbird to connect to Spectrum's servers. I spent an hour on the phone with Spectrum support and they just gave up and said it must be an issue with Thunderbird. Here are the details:

- Brand new Dell 24 All-in-One EC24250 - Windows 11 25H2 plus all additional fixes. - All Dell drivers updated. - Thunderbird V155.0 64-bit

If I click on 'Get Messages' after a while I get: "Connection to server mail.twc.com timed out". I've gone into the config editor and changed mailnews.tcptimeout from 100 to 500 and still get the error.

In the Account Settings | Server Settings | Test server connection I get: An error occurred connecting to mail.twc.com:993.

I've tried this with both setting up a brand new account in Thunderbird, and also via copying the 'Thunderbird' folder from %appdata%\roaming from her old machine.

Email configuration (from Spectrum).

IMAP Settings Server name: mail.twc.com Port: 993 user name: abcd@hawaii.rr.com Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: Normal password

SMTP settings Server Name: mail.twc.com Port 587 Connection Security: STARTTLS Authentication method: Normal password

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this scenario?

I have used Thunderbird for years, for two different work accounts and a personal account. I am retiring from one workplace, a small arts charity which runs occasional arts events for which I work from home using my own set up. My successor uses Outlook so I want to save relevant emails for them to be able to access previous correspondence if they need to. If I save relevant emails as .eml files into a folder in Dropbox, should my successor be able to open them in Outlook? If not, is there another solution apart from printing relevant emails to PDF and saving them? I am not a hugely techie user and generally find Thunderbird very straightforward! Many thanks for any advice! CathGuth

I was actively using Thunderbird in 2024-2025. Then I moved to Outlook. I had difficulty to move emails from Thunderbird to Outlook, so 2024-2025 emails remained in Thunderbird only. Last month my company did not extend Kylos domain subscription therefore Kylos will delete my emails from server soon. I'm afraid I will loose 2024-2025 emails then. Could you please advise / explain the solution not to loose my emails in Thunderbird. Server configuration IMAP. Emails moved from inbox and outbox to local folders, but for IMAP it may not be solution.

I have settings from Greenby to set up server connections for a new account. They are validated by thunderbird but, after, entering my greenby password, generates the error, below, which greenby claims is a thunderbird problem.

"Component returned failure code: 0x804b000a (NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI) [nsIIOService.newURI] Show less

Component returned failure code: 0x804b000a (NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI) [nsIIOService.newURI]"

Now my greenby password works on their systems

Now I'm very new to Thunderbird so not familiar with the commands

Any one any ideas ?

This morning, my email Inbox is empty. I use Thunderbird for four email accounts, and three of them are fine, but the fourth one has an empty Inbox this morning. I didn't (intentionally, anyway) move the emails anywhere, and they do appear to be in the All Mail folder, so I didn't lose them entirely. But I keep my emails mostly in my Inbox and they aren't there anymore.

Any ideas what happened to make them disappear and how I can get them back to the Inbox?

Thanks!

I have recently downloaded Thunderbird Mail, and the installation went smoothly, however, only half of the folders from Apple Mail have been imported. I have tried repeating the import, but without success. What could be the reason for this, and how do I transfer the rest of the folders? I have also tried saving the missing folders as mbox files, and then transferring - but without success.

I've been using Thunderbird version 155.0 with only a few issues (reported in other posts).

To investigate one of the issues I've had to create a new profile for testing. I've managed to set everything up except for my default font for outgoing emails. If I send an email with say, four lines of text, I can format each line to be a different font and the received email reflects the different fonts for each line.

But Thunderbird isn't remembering the last selected font. So if I send a second email (without re-selecting any font) the recipient receives it in some naff mono-spaced font. I guess there's somewhere where I can set up the default font for my outgoing emails but I haven't managed to find it yet. Can anyone help?

Ive been sending a weekly invite message from Thunderbird to same 40 recipients - no prob until today, when i got this message:

Sending of the message failed. The message was not sent due to exceeding the allowed number of recipients. The server responded: Policy-SC01 You’ve reached your sending limit. Don’t worry, you can send again soon..

I contacted Virgin support who shared my screen and played around with some of the Thunderbird settings. No solution so they said contact Thunderbird support, hence message. At time of this message i cannot even send to one recipient......would appreciate advice on here if possible.

Have been working with NameCheap's Private Email (PE) support for a couple days trying to unsubscribe and hide or delete folders Deleted Messages, Junk, Sent Items and Sent Messages.

Today a chat rep for PE told me these are not native PE folders and were created by a client app. If this is true and as TB is the only client I ever use it would have to be the culprit.

Notably, there remain a couple of unaffected email accounts, one of which is only accessed from an old 68.12.1 (64-bit) machine.

The rep is going to look into removing the folders on their end and I am going to revert to the old version of TB for my machine to see if we can clean up this issue.

Is it possible that newer versions of TB are really creating the unmanageable folders and is there any way that can be stopped???

Have used TB for years, love it and contribute to its support but while these folders appear at the bottom of the list in PE's web client they are inerspersed with the normal (Inbox, Sent, etc) folders in TB and they sometimes have duplicate names (i.e. Sent and Sent Items both appear as "Sent" in TB with only the Properties Dialog showing which is which). Very confusing and pretty much a deal breaker for TB.

How do I access the notification messages so I can post them here? Because there is like 12 or more a day on each machine from multiple accounts.

I got one that mentions restricting the number of concurrent threads using the IMAP interface but no clue as to how to restrict TB from making multiple requests from multiple accounts to the same server at the same time.

Hello fellow Thunderbirds,

I have been using Thunderbird for years and had thousands of emails in quite a few folders, with a shit-tonne of filters etc. My emails were running pretty well. I only use two addresses, but the folders help manage everything.

I just got a new computer last week. Prior to switching over to the new computer I read through the 'Export your Thunderbird Profile' help page, and the 'Move Thunderbird data to a new computer' pages. I've tried to follow all the info there (with a glitch, explained below).

I am using a Windows system and have gone from Win10 to Win11.

I have the following data:

  • Mozilla Maintenance Service (in Program Files (x86) ).
  • Mozilla Thunderbird (in Program Files (x86) )
  • Thunderbird (In Users/Username/AppData/Local/Thunderbird) (Contains 'profile' and 'updates'

I tried to swap the above data into the same spots on the new computer, but alas, it's not working. I *may*, however, have fucked it up myself...

So... When I got the new computer, I immediately downloaded Firefox, but, alas, I entered my email's details before closing it down. It did download a few off the server, but only a day's worth (before I realised I screwed up).

As soon as I realised I'd mucked up, I uninstalled Thunderbird and deleted the files on the new computer (you know how when you download it doesn't always remove all the stuff, so I tried to do this).

I reinstalled Thunderbird, but closed it prior to loading the email addresses on (as instructed). I then transferred all the above data into the corresponding file areas on the new computer. However, everytime I try to run the program it just goes to the standard open screen (with the popup that prompts you to enter your email addresses and details into it - see image, below, in case I'm not explaining it right).

Anyway, I'd appreciate any help you might be able to give me as I'm desperate to get my emails running again and have access to all the saved emails which were in my system. Kindly. Larysa.
