Thunderbird stopped working after update

Today (July 13, 2025) I noticed a notice from Thunderbird which sometimes gets out after an automatic update. It asked if I wanted to switch to a different version of Thunderbird, and I declined.

Later on the same day Thunderbird stopped working. When I start it says "searching for imap.gmail.com..." and gets stuck. I started it in temporary mode with no effect. I downloaded and installed the latest version with no effects. I cannot access the menus

Any suggestions are welcome! I have been using Thunderbird for many years and I would not like to switch to other solutions

I due eventi non sono probabilmente collegati. Da tempo infatti Gmail sta attivando procedure più gravose per chi vuole accedere tramite client. Le trovi riassunte qui -> https://support.mozilla.org/it/kb/thunderbird-gmail

I menu sono nascosti per impostazione predefinita da molti anni. Basta premere Alt sulla tastiera per visualizzarli.

Più in generale Per poter inquadrare il problema prova a fornire queste informazioni:

  1. Versione di Thunderbird
  2. Versione del sistema operativo
  3. Provider delle caselle email (Gmail, Libero, Hotmail, etc.)
  4. Tipologia di account (POP3, IMAP)
  5. Estensioni installate
  6. Messaggi di errore che vengono visualizzati durante l'utilizzo di Thunderbird
  7. Software di sicurezza eventualmente presenti (Antivirus e simili)
  8. Screenshot del problema (se utile a chiarire il contesto)

Il problema forse dipendeva dal server di posta. Oggi aprendo Thunderbird si è di nuovo bloccato, ma dopo parecchi minuti ha stabilito la connessione con gmail.com e ha scaricato i nuovi messaggi. Grazie per la risposta

Può anche essere... comunque lascio la discussione aperta in caso di novità (verrà chiusa automaticamente dalla piattaforma dopo alcuni giorni).
