Hi folks

When I tried to start up Thunderbird this evening, it has taken me to a set-up page. I seem to have lost all the settings, all my previous (about 3000 !) e-mails in my Inbox.

I obviously don't really want to set it all up again, but it has been working for years without a problem, and then suddenly this happens. I had now a 'warning' message saying that Mozilla Thunderbird wants to make changes to your computer - do you accept? I don't want it to make any changes unless it is to revert back to how it was.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks.

Why am I not able to add a 3rd IMAP email account?

Everything comes up like before for IMAP accounts, but it does not recognize the email or password, for some reason, and I have checked them over and over.

I also tried adding manually, but although it adds the email account name, the connections don't work, and there is not much information to even adjust that.

Thunderbird suddenly will not download my mail. Instead, it stops and resets the connection to the POP server and gives me a pop-up message saying: Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox.

I've deleted almost all messages in my Inbox and everything in Trash. I've gone to my webmail and deleted any messages I don't recognize on the server. I turned off my firewall. And I checked my settings, which seem to be fine. All to no avail. Thunderbird still won't download my mail and gives me the same message over and over.

What do I do now? Please help!

Using TB 147.0.2 on Windows 11. Installation went very smoothly, including importing all my IMAP, Gmail, and iCloud accounts. Kudos!

However, my iCloud account has four calendars (personal, shared, travel, work) and TB only sees two of the four. I can't pinpoint any reason why. There's nothing special about the two it sees or the two it doesn't, as far as I can tell.

Any hints? Suggestions? Ridicule?

Linux Tbird 140.7.1esr (64bit) running under Ubuntu 22.04, and with imap on all my email accounts. I normally manage emails locally in Tbird, hardly ever go to webmail.

In my list of Local Folders, there are two which show up with the name 'Outbox' and identical icons. Viewing each folder's Properties, the name Outbox is unsurprisingly given for both, but their locations are different: mailbox://nobody@Local Folders/Unsent Messages mailbox://nobody@Local Folders/Outbox

1. Are these two folders supposed to have the same purpose? One (or both) must be for the [in my case extremely rare] situation where I compose an email but its actual sending is frustrated (eg router turned off).

2. I cannot rename either folder, eg by attempting to edit the Name field when viewing the properties box. If their function is distinct, being able to change the name to reflect this would be nice.

3. If the purpose is the same, presumably only one is actually used by Tbird. Which one? Can I delete the other, and if so how - just in case Tbird would automatically recreate it?

Not a big deal - this has been the situation for a long time (brain fog stops me remembering just how long) - but this is untidy and it niggles.

148.0.1 (64-bit) on Win11 desktop _____________________________________________________________________

Hi: After messing around with things to resolve another issue, I find that there is a vertically-orientated toolbar at the left side of my screen. That toolbar includes: Addressbook, Calendar, Tasks, and Chat, (near top) and a Settings icon (near the bottom).

In the past, when things were working properly, I seem to recall having tabbed options to select the Addressbook, the Calendar, and also something to select either the display of newly received messages or display all messages.

It is those optional tabs that I want to be available again located horizontally near the top of the screen, as they once before were. I don't know how or what must be done.

Can anyone help me with this?

I have not been successful after many tries. Could this be because the Thunderbird revisions are different? If so, can I get 115.18.0 to install on my Mint machine? If not how should I proceed? I have already tried creating a new .thunderbird directory with ********.default directory from the other machine. I have also tried a new .thunderbird directory with a the ********default-release directory as directed by one site.

I have two email accounts, one is hotmail.com, the other is on outlook.com

The SMTP for the outlook account works fine, but Thunderbird puts that same smtp details into the Hotmail account smtp. That also puts into the Hotmail username, the outlooks email address.

If I try to send an email using the Hotmail account, I get a message saying 'Hotmail can not send using xx@outlook.com

If I use the settings to make the username xxx@hotmail.com, it puts that into the smtp of the outlook.com address then that will not send giving the same fault. This has only started this last couple of days, nothing changed in the settings.

This only occurs on my Desktop. On my laptop with same settings it works fine.

Thunderbird is showing up to date?

I want to set one account that's used every time "+ New Message" is clicked, regardless of which account or folder I'm in.

Is that what the Default Account is for? If so, how do I set it?

This support article says there's an Account Actions button that offers Set as Default. But I don't see it.

There is a gold star next to the desired account name in the account list in Account Settings, so perhaps this has already been set as the default account. But sent emails are not defaulting to it.

Any help reducing my confusion would be appreciated.

For about 2 weeks, EVERY time I try to write an email, after typing a few lines or so, the whole window 'grays out' and becomes UN-responsive. I get no error message. Waiting for it to respond doesn't work and I have to close out and re-start Thunderbird. Sometimes Thunderbird will have saved some portion of my email in my 'Drafts' folder, but not reliably, so I have to frequently 'Control + S' - save it to avoid having to re-type the entire message again. Troubleshoot Mode doesn't help, nor does clearing the cache. I've been hoping an update would come up that would solve this, either from Thunderbird or Windows (11), but not so far. Please tell me how I should resolve this - I have used Thunderbird for years (and regularly contribute too) and don't want to have to change to different email client.
