Every page I load, the cursor defaults to the address bar. It interrupts what I'm doing constantly as the sites I browse constantly has me switching pages. Let me clarify, this is every page, not new tabs

Every time I open a new tab, it defaults to an AVG secure search. I checked the firefox settings, and browser.newtab.url is supposed to open to about:newtab, yet it fails to do so. I tried opening it manually and it works then

I have tried resetting Firefox and these problems persisted

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, , see:

Okay, starting in SafeMode seems to correct these problems, but I rely on the protection from NoScript

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

Okay, I tried disabling all add-ons and it still occurs. Is there anything else that safemode disables?

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected
