Delete attachments Thunderbird has opened.

Where does Thunderbird put attachments that I open (say a PDF I opened)? Sometimes these documents are sensitive and I want to assure any temporary copies are deleted, either manually but preferably automatically

Will setting "browser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit" to "True" help?

Thank you.

It is an old bug of the macOS version to automatically save opened attachments on the Desktop https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=238789 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1387292

Setting the preference "browser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit" to "True" is a good workaround: all those attachments scattered on your desktop disappear when you quit Thunderbird.

Eleven years ago I described a more elegant solution in this discussion in the MozillaZine forum https://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=2948591
