Passwords lost
Firefox is not saving my passwords. Every time I start up my laptop, all the saved passwords are gone. I have tried a refresh and a new install as well, but the problem persists. I have to sync to my other machine to restore them.

As a side note, this started happening after the latest update.
Hi
This support article may help:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recover-user-data-missing-after-firefox-update
That did not help but thanks for the reply. It is only the saved passwords that disappear when I start up my Windows 11 machine. It is simple enough to sync to my Windows 10 machine to recover the passwords but it is something that needs to be fixed. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Firefox not saving passwords and losing them on startup often happens due to corrupted profile data, permission issues, or syncing conflicts; try creating a new Firefox profile to see if the problem persists, ensure Firefox has proper permissions to write to its profile folder, check that password saving is enabled in settings, and avoid using third-party cleaning tools that might delete your data—if syncing restores passwords, make sure you’re logged into Firefox Sync properly and that no settings or extensions are interfering with saved logins.
Thank you - creating a new profile seems to have solved the problem. I shut down the laptop, restarted it, and the passwords remained. If it is still holding tomorrow, I should be good to go.
Much to my dismay, when I turned on the laptop this morning, the passwords were gone again. The 'create a new profile' did not solve the problem. The missing passwords seem to be the only thing gone when I startup. Once again, this started happening after the latest update.
Hi there! Sorry to hear Firefox isn’t keeping your saved logins.
Since you tried creating a new profile, and the issue is still happening. It must be an external issue.
Heres some things you can do:
External cleanup tools – Programs like CCleaner, some antivirus software, or “system optimizers” can wipe Firefox data on shutdown. If you use any, try disabling them or adding Firefox to the exclusion list.
Firefox settings – In Settings → Privacy & Security → History, check if “Clear history when Firefox closes” is enabled. If it is, click Settings… and make sure “Saved logins” isn’t selected.
File permissions – Firefox saves passwords in the profile files (logins.json) and (key4.db). If your OS account doesn’t have permission to write to that folder, Firefox won’t retain them.
If none of these work, please provide your operating system and whether any cleanup/security software is installed? That will help us investigate further and file a bug if needed.
