Hi,

Just got version 89.0 installed. And I totally don't like what happened to the tabs. They are visually disconnected from the page they belong to and transformed to some kind of buttons (at least when selected. When not slected only the caption is visible) . I cannot even imagine why such a useless change is done, but in terms of UI design this is not a good step. It makes things less clear.

I would like to have to old tabs back, but cannot find a theme which can do this.

Is there a setting with which I can set to old tabstyle back?

Thnx

Hi Eric, There's a Firefox theme on the addons site called Photon Colors, which I found helps a lot.

Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/photon-colors/ and click on Install Theme.

uhmm... thnx for the reply. But apart from the different colors, it's not really a change. I am hoping a way exists to bring the real tabs back.

You can disable the proton look by entering "about:config" in the url-bar.

After accepting the warning, search for "proton", which will produce a list that includes the following:

  • browser.proton.contextmenus.enabled
  • browser.proton.doorhangers.enabled
  • browser.proton.enabled
  • browser.proton.modals.enabled
  • browser.proton.places-tooltip.enabled
  • browser.proton.toolbar.version

Double-click on all settings above that end with "enabled", to set them to "false" (unless they already are set to false).

That should do it.

To any developers with high enough rank to make decisions - things like this should be opt-in. I'm sure some people like it, but we should be allowed to choose ourselves.

WARNING: There are plans to remove this preference in the next two months The preference setting was created as a toggle for developers when building the new design. Now that the new interface has shipped, the preference will be removed.

If you have any issues with the new design, please let us know what it is you don't like, and we can try provide more permanent solutions depending on the issue.
