Hi, I am just a visitor here with my own problems, but I believe I can help you with this problem.

If you're using Version 57: Click on "Tools" in your browser menu, then click on "Options." In the General section scroll down to where it says "Firefox Updates." Make sure the "Automatically install updates (recommended)" is NOT checked. Then you have to choose which other option you want. Either choose "check for updates but let you choose to install them" OR "Never never check for updates (not recommended).

Hope this helps!
