Precondition: I've been randomly getting 'autoforwarded' to a malicious website (along with a Norton alert for blocking malicious attack) that uses the Firefox homepage background and prompts the user to download a Firefox update.

Action: I rebooted the computer and after restart was completed I received a pop-up alert with the subject question listed as an application error.

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a good ad / pop-up blocker.
