I've downloaded Firefox mobile, but when I try to search anything, it still pop-up as a Google search. I've followed the directions to make Firefox my default browser, etc., but without success.

Do you mean for searches you run in Firefox? There's a second step, and that is to select your preferred search results provider within Firefox. See: Manage my default search engines in Firefox for Android.
