Is this data listed on the about:cache page?

The doomed folder is normal, but should be empty. You can clear the cache manually by removing the cache2 folder on the hard drive. The about:cache page shows the location of the disk cache.

Thank you for that fast reply. Regrettably, I am a novice with Mac and completely unclear of the steps to take to remove cache2 from the harddrive. Can you help me with that?

You would have to go to the location on the hard drive that is used for the disk cache.

In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the ~/Library folder is a hidden folder.

OK ... very helpful. I got as far as ~/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/ ... but there is nothing listed in the Profiles folder. I cannot see anything that says: <profile>/cache2.

What location does the about:cache list for the location of the disk cache?

<profile> is the actual profile name that start with an eight character random name that you can see on the about:config page.

If you are in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History) then only the memory cache is used and not the disk cache.

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder. Location used for the main profile.

• ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files.

You're awesome ... we're getting there. I went to:

~/Profiles/lsypf8t0.default-1411157937407/cache2. When clicking on the folder for Isypf8t0 ... there was nothing that says cache2. Does this mean it's hidden?

Does the about:cache page shows that the disk cache is enabled and working?

Thanks so much again cor-el for responding. On the about:cache page, there is no text under the disk cache section that states 'enabled'. There is a hyperlink for 'List Cache Entries', but when I click on that, the next page does not have any text indicating disk cache enabled.

Try to delete the parent folder of the cache2 folder (lsypf8t0.default-1411157937407) in case there is a problem with the permissions. Note that it is a leading lowercase 'l' (L) and not an 'I' in lsypf8t0.default-1411157937407 It is always a problem with some fonts to distinguish between a lowercase 'l' and uppercase 'I' or number '0' and uppercase 'O' when it comes to a random character string, so if possible use a copy and paste.

Do you mean deleting the folder lsypf8t0.default-1411157937407 ... or hitting Command+↑ and going up one level to delete the parent folder called Profiles?

Do you have the ~/Library/Caches/Firefox/ folder as that isn't clear from your response? Or is the Profiles at the root level in your home directory (~/Profiles)like you wrote

In case of the latter you can try to rename the Profiles folder (Profiles.old) to force Firefox to create a new folder structure. If you have ~/Library/Caches/Firefox/ then try to rename the Firefox folder (Firefox.old).

Apologies cor-el for taking longer than planned to get back with you. The lsypf8t0.default-1411157937407 folder is found according to the following hierarchy: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/lsypf8t0.default...

There is nothing found in the Profiles folder that is present according to the hierarchy of ~/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles

The folder in "/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/" is the main profile folder and not the location where Firefox stores the disk cache, so you won't find the cache folder there. The cache2 folder should be in the location as listed on the about:cache page.

If Firefox isn't able to create files and folders in the "~/Library/Caches/" location then you should check the permissions. Try to repair the disk permissions:

When I follow that hierarchy sequence, there is nothing visible within or after the Profiles folder. The only way I can see the folder lsypf8t0.default-1411157937407 is by starting with the Application Support folder. Even then, however, there is no cache2 folder viewable in the lsypf8t0.default folder.

I cannot find this elusive cache2 folder according to the hierarchy listed on the about:cache page.

Try to delete the Firefox and Firefox/Profiles/ folder in ~/Library/Caches/ to see if that allows Firefox to create a new folder structure.

Well, I 'rejoiced' a little too soon. Deleting the Firefox folder within Cache is not a permanent fix. At firstafter delting the Firefox folder, I could '0' the cache folder multiple times. But it quickly began to get less and less and I would have to delete the Firefox folder over and over again. Now, I can only '0' the cache folder one time. If I want to zero it out more than once, I have to delete the Firfox folder each time. Just thought you would like to know. Thanks again, Brian
