In Version 45.0.2 it was possible to copy a modified cert8.db file into the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\browser\defaults\profile

And when a new user starts Firefox for the first time, the cert8.db file gets copied in his user profile. In 46.0 it does not work anymore.

Did the folder change or is this a bug in 46.0?

Apparently support for this folder has been removed, see:

  • bug 1234012 - Figure out what to do about the default profile
  • bug 1235099 - Remove the NS_APP_BOOKMARKS_50_FILE directory service key

Wow thats bad. But is there another solution? I need this. I Must give a modified cert8.db to new profiles.

I don't know if CCK2 is able to provide this feature already.

Note that you can use a mozilla.cfg file to run privileged JavaScript code and copy the file to a profile. Once this is done you probably need to create a special pref to remember this. I don't know how this would work with a new profile.
