Duplicate Emails

NO matter what I do , I constantly get duplicate emails . I have compacted folders , My settings on the server setting are NOT checked to keep messages on server, I have deleted msf. files and restarted Thunderbird to let them rebuild . I have compacted folders , closed out , emptied trash , ETC...... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is getting very old and FRUSTRATING . What is the problem ??????
