I am not getting a sound for New email notifications

I am running windows 10 and mozilla thunderbird. My settings are set to play a sound when new email arrives, also do not get a sound by pushing play button.

Are you using the default sound file? There a some special requirement for sample rated etc for sound files. So test the default file first.
