This is a very odd issue. It is strange that only select images are displayed green.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

This issue could be caused by an incorrect color setting on your monitor. It appears that something with the GNOME UI on Linux sometimes messes up images on Firefox.

To fix this, you need to disable color management in Firefox. To do so, please follow these steps:

  1. Type about:config in the Firefox address bar
  2. Click the button on the screen to advance
  3. Locate the gfx.color_management.mode integer
  4. Change the value of this property to 0
  5. Restart Firefox

This should fix the issue. Let us know if it does.

If you would like more information on this issue, please feel free to explore the Ubuntu support threads:

This can be caused by a problem with the color profile for your display monitor or color profiles embedded in images.

Try to disable color management to test if it is caused by a problem with color management. You can set the gfx.color_management.mode pref to 0 on the about:config page to disable Color Management.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

You need to close and restart Firefox to make the change effective. See:

Many thanks. I found a similar thing on: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1065307 "Photos appear darker in Facebook than in Internet Explorer 8 are there settings to adjust Mozilla?"
